Dursley News - August 2017

Although not in Dursley, the 43rd Annual Gloucestershire Vintage & Country Extravaganza held at South Cerney, near Cirencester, had a good representation from the town. Dursley Heritage Centre was in attendance with a display of artefacts but the star of the show was undoubtedly the restored R.A. Lister fire engine, beautifully restored to original condition and making its first visit to the county in over 40 years.

R.A. Lister fire engine at South Cerney show
After a four year, top to bottom, restoration the 1937 Fordson fire engine, originally bought to serve in the R.A. Lister fire Brigade, is now resplendent in its original livery while making an appearance back in the county at the annual South Cerney vintage transport show.

Chapel Street houses
The terrace of new houses on Chapel Street has now been completed and seem to blend in well with the adjoining Methodist Chapel on the right.

Solar Eclipse
The solar eclipse, whose path tracked across the centre of the USA, was just noticeable in this view taken from Stinchcombe Hill, where a small shadow can be seen at the lower edge of the sun.
